Cór Bród is a new LGBTQIA+ community choir from Unhinged, and we want you to be part of it from day one.
Every singer is welcome, whether you have been singing for years or are discovering choral singing for the very first time. Under Oran Tobin, our founder, conductor and vocal coach, you will be guided towards healthy vocal technique, real musicianship, confidence and ensemble skills, until all those individual voices come together as one sound.
Cór Bród is chasing the highest artistic standards, but the door is open wide. Musical excellence is not something reserved for people with formal training. Through thoughtful rehearsal, vocal education and a supportive community, every member gets the chance to grow as a singer and as a musician.
Our repertoire is as varied as the people in the room. Alongside major works from the classical choral tradition, expect madrigals, part songs, contemporary choral music, folk repertoire and specially commissioned works celebrating LGBTQIA+ voices and experiences. We will also be making new choral arrangements of the iconic songs that are part of queer cultural history, reimagined for classical and contemporary choirs, so they can sit in conversation with music from across the centuries.
Each concert programme will be built around themes drawn from the richness of LGBTQIA+ life and history: identity, resilience, chosen family, hope, remembrance, joy, love and belonging. The aim is music that is emotionally engaging, artistically compelling, and just as meaningful to the people singing it as to the people listening.
Cór Bród also wants to be woven into the life of Galway. Expect us at Pride celebrations, working with local organisations, singing at fundraising concerts, running workshops and outreach projects, anywhere that music and community can strengthen each other.
At its heart, Cór Bród exists to prove that community singing and artistic excellence are not opposites. They are natural partners. This is a space where people can learn, grow, celebrate exactly who they are, and discover the extraordinary power of singing together.
So whether you are an experienced singer, someone coming back to music after a long time away, or someone taking their very first step into choral singing, you are invited. Join a community united by friendship, creativity and a shared love of music.
Cór Bród is a choir where everyone is welcome, plain and simple: LGBTQIA+ people, allies, singers who have done this for decades, and people who have only ever sung in the shower. We make joyful, meaningful music, and we do it properly, but nobody needs a music degree to walk through the door.
Community is the heart of it, and so is ambition. Through patient rehearsal, proper vocal coaching and a lot of encouragement, we grow together year after year until the sound is ours alone. And above everything, we celebrate what singing does to people: it builds confidence, friendship, resilience and pride.
Cór Bród exists to be a musical home for LGBTQIA+ people and allies, where community, artistic excellence and personal growth all live under the same roof. That means we:
Our repertoire is chosen to let singers grow together while exploring a wide world of styles. At the heart of it are beautiful, approachable works for mixed voices: part songs, madrigals, folk-song arrangements, contemporary choral music and classical pieces that build real musicianship without assuming any formal training.
Alongside those, we perform special choral arrangements of iconic popular songs that have become part of LGBTQIA+ culture and history. We never just copy the originals: these songs are reimagined as rich choral works in the tradition of classical and Romantic part-song writing, so audiences hear music they love in a completely new way.
And as the choir grows, so does the repertoire, getting braver and more ambitious while every singer keeps learning, growing and singing with confidence.
Every Cór Bród concert tells a story. We never just line up a collection of pieces and hope for the best: each programme is built around a theme drawn from LGBTQIA+ lives and experiences, universal enough to speak to everyone in the room.
Themes we love:
By bringing together music from across the centuries and genres, every performance lets audiences hear new connections between classical repertoire, contemporary choral music, folk traditions and beloved popular songs.
Learning is at the centre of everything we do. This is a place where singers develop their voices, their confidence, their musicianship and their understanding of what a choir can be.
Oran Tobin, our founder and artistic director, supports every member on that journey, drawing on his experience as a classical singer, conductor, vocal coach and educator to build healthy technique, musical independence and a shared ensemble sound.
No experience required. All you need is enthusiasm, curiosity and a willingness to learn.
Cór Bród is more than a choir. It is a community built on friendship, encouragement and shared creativity.
Alongside rehearsals and concerts, we intend to be woven into the life of Galway's LGBTQIA+ community: performances, collaborations, fundraising events, Pride celebrations, workshops and social gatherings. We welcome LGBTQIA+ people and allies of every age and background, and we make music that connects people, celebrates them and holds them up.
Five simple principles guide everything we do.
Cór Bród brings together the Irish words for choir and pride. The name celebrates Ireland's language and culture, and the values that define us: confidence, authenticity, dignity and community.
For us, pride is far more than one month or one event. It is about creating a space where people find their voice, support one another and feel the joy of making music together.
Cór Bród is a choir where every voice matters, every singer belongs, and every performance celebrates the richness of our shared humanity.
